Alfonzo Cook founded Garden Grove in 1874.  Garden Grove is located just south of Los Angeles in Orange County.  Their motto is “The City of Youth and Ambition”; which truly mirrors the diverse and rich culture of the community.  Garden Grove’s community is also well known for West Garden Grove.  West Garden Grove is located just west of the city and is only connected to the rest of Garden Gove by a slender piece of land that follows Garden Grove Blvd.  Garden Grove is also recognized worldwide as the home of The Crystal Cathedral, founded by Robert H. Schuler and has the greatest number of places to worship and churches per capita in California.  

Garden Grove is also known as the city of festivals in Orange County.  Garden Grove has five festivals a year.  Four of the annual festivals are cultural and celebrate the Korean, Vietnamese, Arabic and American customs and traditions.  The fifth community –based festival is the Strawberry festival.  In the Western United States the Strawberry festival event is the largest.  

Part of Garden Grove’s Real Estate appeal is that it’s amazingly only 1 mile away from Disneyland, seven miles from Knott’s Berry Farm, just nine miles to the local beaches and 10 miles from John Wayne Airport.  Another Garden Grove favorite is “Little Korea”.  The heart of “Little Korea” runs down Garden Grove Blvd. between Brookhurst Street and Harbor Blvd. and has over 1,000 shops that offer Korean goods and restaurants.

Garden Grove also has three stage theaters, Gem Theater, the Garden Grove Playhouse and the Festival Amphitheater.  Every summer the Festival Amphitheater is home to Shakespeare Orange County, where they exhibit a Shakespeare Festival.  These venues are all independently operated but owned by the city Garden Grove. 

Garden Groves flower is the Orange Tropicana Rose and their tree is the Flame Coral.
